Jiminy Glick in La La Wood is the new movie version of the character created by Martin Short for the television show Jiminy Glick on Comedy Central. The film is almost entirely improvised and features Short, Jan Hooks, Corey Pearson, Elizabeth Perkins, Linda Cardellini, John Michael Higgins and Janeane Garofalo. Joining in the film for brief appearances or cameos are Kiefer Sutherland, Steve Martin, Jake Gyllenhaal, Kurt Russell, Rob Lowe and others. The story is a prequel to the Glick show telling the story of Jiminy Glick's humble beginnings as a local celebrity interviewer from Butte Montana. He gets a chance to go to the Toronto Film Festival and while he's there he scores an exclusive interview with hot star Ben DiCarlo (Pearson). Now Glick is a major player but his newfound stardom is threatened by a murder that he may have committed and only David Lynch (Short) has the answer. I've only seen a few episodes of the Glick show and it never really grabbed me. It has its moments, but it always felt kind of like an overly long Saturday Night Live skit. The movie is the same kind of deal, but the interview moments are actually the best part. Glick's interviews with Martin, Russell and Lowe are the standouts of the film. There really aren't any laughs in the story of Jiminy Glick's rise to stardom. He's kinda funny as Lynch, but only kinda funny.
